- in 1095 pope urban ll called for a crusade to retake the holy land. Around 1500 people joined the crusade. Despite how many people died on the journey it was considered a military success. they were able to retake the multiple states in the holy land.
- We must retake the holy land!

- the second crusade was called because of Edessa. the reason that they made this call was because the crusader states were built on defense which is why it was so alarming when in fell
- i call for a seccond crusade
- even though the first crusade was a success, that doesn't mean that they all will be. the first crusade failed and they lost some of there lands. there are many reasons for this failure. an example is having no local support and leaders arguing
- when Saladin captured Jerusalem the third crusade was called for. there were three rulers who led this crusade and it was called the crusade of kings. the king of England Richard l became the leader of the crusade

- Truce finally
- Saladin and Richard were both foes but have both earned each others respect. the battle kept fighting and eventually Richard 1 had an idea. he created a truce for them both. this truce ended the third crusade
- the fourth crusade was considered an embarrassment for the pope and the knights. this is because they never reached there destination. they raided nearby houses and villages along there path. this technically means the fourth crusade was a failure.
