  • The Philosophy of John Locke and Thomas Hobbes
  • Hi! I'm Thomas Hobbes and I also am a philosopher.
  • Hi! I'm John Locke. I am one of the many philosopher thinkers in this time period.
  • The Beliefs of John Locke
  • LifeLibertyProperty
  • I will tell you a little about myself. I have written the "Essay Concerning Human Understanding". My main belief is that people should have control of their natural rights, life, liberty, and property. The government is made to protect citizens' natural rights but if it oversteps that boundry then it shall be able to be overthrown.
  • The Beliefs of Thomas Hobbes
  • I have written the Leviathan. My belief is based on how everybody should listen to the higher power to prevent violence. Everybody is born with a violent state of nature, so following the rules will keep everybody safe. After all, governments are created to protect people from their own selfishness.
  • The Differences
  • Our philosophies and views differ quite a lot.
  • I believe that the government should have absolute control to protect the people from their natural state of violence. However, John believes that people have a peaceful natural state and that the government's job is to protect the peoples natural rights and the government could be overthrown!
  • The Simularities
  • We both just want what we think is best for the common good. Also, we are both very passionate about politics. In the future, both of our work will be influential and helpful in the shaping of the new government.
  • Although we mostly have differences, we do share some simularities.
