  • This scene demonstrates the theme of magic. The spirit Ariel caused the Tempest to move creating a shipwreck of the boat off shore. The use of the spirit and movement of the storm illustrates the use of magic.
  • In this scene the theme of revenge is depicted. Propero is speaking with the spirit Ariel making sure his plot of having the storm wreck the ship full of those who wronged him was completed. He wanted revenge on those that banished him and Miranda to the island.
  • This scene demonstrates the theme of love. Miranda has never seen another person besides her father and falls deeply in love with Ferdinand. The two decide to marry.
