  • On May 7, 1915, the German U-boats sunk the Lusitania. Out of the 1,266 passengers, 123 casualties were American. The passengers of the Lusitania were very well aware of the dangers of voyaging in that area. The sinking of the Lusitania also made the public opinion in many countries against Germany. Years after the Lusitania was sunk it was revealed the boat indeed was carrying war supplies. Even today we still look into what really happened and how the ship sank.

  • In February 15, 1898 the United States Navy ship sunk in the Havana Harbor. This event was responsible for the contribution of the spanish American war in April. The spanish were blamed for this so this accelerated the the events that led to the war. The explosion which was most likely internal killed 268 sailor which was 3/4 of the crew. There was also some who thought it was because of the coal bunker but to this day it is still a debate.
  • In January 1917, Germany tried to create an alliance with Mexico with the Zimmerman Telegram. The contents of the Zimmerman telegram enrage people, they were even madder when Germany said it was genuine. The people who actually decoded this were the British. The British thought of this as their best description of World war 1. In Mexico, they were having a civil war. The Zimmerman Telegram pushed America to join the war. The people were not just mad at Germany but they were also mad at Mexico. The Zimmerman Telegram certainly did push Americans to join the war but there were also people who did not want to get involved with the problem in Europe.
