  • Hey, What are the types of Agriculture?
  • The types are extensive, mixed, plantation, pastoral and market gardening
  • What is extensive agriculture?
  • Done in open land with less population. In the prairies of NA, pampas of Argentina
  • Examples of crops are Wheat, barley and corn. Fertilizer usage is rare
  • What is plantation farming?
  • Farms are huge and called estates. Machines and NPK is used a lot. Practiced in sub-tropical areas. Skilled manual labour is required and farms are scientifically managed
  • What is Mixed farming?
  • Crop growing and animal rearing is practiced on the same farm. Common in NZ, Russia, USA, Europe. Farm size is moderate and intensively farmed. Machines, good seeds and fertilizer and crop rotation is done to ensure high yield.Wheat, maize and barley are grown along with cattle like sheep and goat and cow for mutton and beef. Poultry are also reared.
  • What is pastoral farming?
  • Commercial rearing of livestock like cattle, sheep and goats for their products. Practiced in temperate grasslands - Prairies of USA , pampas of Argentina etc. Animals are kept in huge farms called ranches. Fed on natural grasses and fodder. Farms are scientifically managed.
  • What is market and orchard farming?
  • Market gardening is growing of fruits and vegetables and flowers for urban markets. Located just outside cities and intensively cultivated and fertilizers are used. Is called truck gardening due to transport by trucks,
  • Orchard farming is practiced in Mediterranean regions. Specialize in production of figs, olives and grapes.
