- EXPOSITION
- I'm so excited for our future together, Alfredo.
- As am I, Esperanza. We have a bright future ahead of us.
- INITIAL INCIDENT
- Alfredo, it's so good to see you. You haven't changed a bit.
- Julia? It's been years since we last saw each other.
- CONFLICT
- Why don't you speak out frankly before it is too late?You need not think of me and of what people will say.
- I have just been busy lately don't get any wrong ideas please try to understand me too.
- The story is set in the Philippines during the early 1900s, when the country was still under colonial rule. The protagonist, Alfredo Salazar, is a young lawyer engaged to Esperanza, a girl from a wealthy family
- CLIMAX
- I understand. But I just needed to tell you how I feel. Even if we can't be together, I will always love you, Julia.
- I'm sorry, Alfredo. But we can't undo the past. You have to honor your commitment to Esperanza
- Alfredo attends a party hosted by his childhood friend, Brigida, and her family. At the party, he meets Julia Salas, an old flame of his, who is now married to a US-based businessman. Alfredo is taken aback by Julia's beauty and charm and begins to have feelings for her once again.
- RESOLUTION
- Alfredo, I don't know. You broke my trust and hurt me deeply. But I also know that we have a long history together, and I still care for you. Let's take some time apart and think about what we really want
- I need to confess something to you. I've been unfaithful to you, emotionally and physically. I was blinded by my own desires and I hurt you. I'm so sorry.
- Alfredo is torn between his engagement to Esperanza and his growing desire for Julia. He keeps secrets from Esperanza to avoid discovery and decides to declare his true feelings for Julia, risking losing both women.
- RESOLUTION
- Alfredo goes to meet Julia, even though his fiancé Esperanza is waiting for him. Julia has already learned about Alfredo's engagement to Esperanza and wishes him for his marriage, leaving him.
- I will always cherish our memories, Alfredo. But we have to let go and move on.
- Alfredo gets a double blow when he returns home and finds Esperanza talking to her friend about loyalty and faithfulness. Esperanza confesses that she knew about his affair with Julia and encourages him to cancel the wedding. However, Alfredo goes ahead with the wedding as scheduled and surrenders to reason.
- Please, Esperanza, forgive me. I love you, and I want to make things right. Will you still marry me?
- Near Julia’s native town, Alfredo, after eight years, is sent to some work duty. On his visit, he feels nostalgic and cannot resist his lust for Julia and soon finds an excuse to meet her.Julia is still single that forces Alfredo to dream about starting a new life with her; however, he soon realizes that everything is not the same as it were before. Moreover, Julia has also changed and lost something.
