  • By: Macy Bass
  • I'm a Loggerhead turtle! My genus is Caretta and I am an oceanic turtle
  • Some of my biggest threats that I need to look out for are by-catch in fishing gear.
  • I have a large head with a powerful jaw. I have a slightly heart-shaped and reddish/brown shell.
  • I weigh typically around 155 to 375 pounds as I grow up. I am also around 2.5 to 3.5 feet usually
  • I eat bottom dwelling invertebrates like whelks, other mollusks, jellyfish, horseshoes crabs, and other crabs
  • You can find me worldwide! But mainly in the subtropical regions of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. As well as in the Mediterranean sea!
  • I nest every 2-4 years and lay about 115-125 eggs.
  • I nest throughout the Caribbean, both sides of the Atlantic ocean, in the eastern Mediterranean sea, in the Indian Ocean, and in the North/South Pacific Ocean.
  • I am the most common species of turtle in the US
  • I made it back home! Until next time goodbye!
  • Female loggerhead turtles return to the same nests where they were born to lay their own eggs
