  • The flood has ruined our crops and many of our people have died! Our homes are destroyed and we can't live like this! What are we supposed to do now?
  • California has gold! We need to hire miners and workers to go into the mines and find that gold!
  • Thanks to the Gold Rush, we are going to move to and live in California! Businesses are hiring workers in the mines. This is a perfect job opportunity!
  • We have another job opportunity! We have been hired to work on the Transcontinental Railroad and work on the rails.
  • One push factor that influenced the Chinese to leave was the 1852 Flooding of Huang He River.As a result, crops failed and more than 9 million people died.
  • The Chinese immigrants are quiet, peaceable, patient, industrious, and economical.
  • We would have never gotten construction done if it weren't for them!
  • However, there was hope because a pull factor that moved Chinese immigrants to come to America was the Gold Rush. There were piles of gold in California so businesses started to advertise in order to hire miners and workers. This led to there being a great job opportunity for the Chinese immigrants.
  • Another pull factor was the Transcontinental Railroad. This provided a job opportunity too because Chinese immigrants were hired as laborers in order to build the rail tracks.
  • Some American attitudes towards the Chinese immigrants were positive. Governor Leland Stanford admired the Chinese immigrants and said that construction was accomplished because of them.
