  • Natural Selection of Ongos - George Chang
  • Variation
  •
  • Overpopulation
  • This is a population of 5 Ongos. The Ongos are a type of germ affecting large creatures. This population is living inside the throat of a dragon called Roaring.
  • Change in environment
  • A genetic mutation has occurred, and now a recessive heritable trait exists in a few individuals of this population. This variation is a defensive enzymatic shield characterised by white skin. Those without this variation have green skin.
  • Adaptation
  • The Ongo's continue breeding together, and the warm and moist environment of the dragons throat are very favourable, and soon lead to a larger population.
  • Selection
  • Roaring is now feeling sick as a result of the increase in amount of Ongo germs. Roaring starts to take some special antibiotic medicine for those of dragon kind, -designed for killing these Ongos.
  • Those with the beneficial shield trait are more likely to survive from the antibiotics, while most of those without it succumb. This pressure is positive upon those with the white skin enzymatic shield trait and negative upon those without.
  • Thus the white Ongos have more fitness and pass there genes to offspring. This has caused a change in the heritable characteristics of this biological population over successive generations. Evolution by natural selection has occured.
