Protagonist 2 - Lynx (Queen Wasp was not Present throughout the story)
Theme
Queen Snowfall in the beginningof the story is paranoid, unsure, demanding, and often tired due to her queenly duties. Later in the book with the help of the Gift of Vision and Lynx she becomes accepting, decisive, wiser, confident, and more capable of her Queenly Duties
Foreshadowing: "Snowfall narrowed her eyes, wishing again that the stupidgift of vision actuallyworked . IceWing eyesight was sharper then most other tribes, but she couldn'tsee their faces clearlyfrom this distance, like she wanted to." (83)
Lynx is very outspoken, has ideas, and is also honest over telling someone what they want to here. Other traits of Lynx seen at sanctuary is that she is kind, and concerns for others, above her other traits is how she acts with the Queen which is very friendly rather then formally.
Suspense: "'Oh, I know!' Cricket said. 'Wait, Queen Snowfall, We're not total strangers! Bumblebee and I had an ancestorfrom your continent. - We're descendantsof Clearsight!' Out of the cornerof her eye, Snowfall saw Tsunami wince. Snowfall had a strangemoment of vertigo, as though the ground underneath her had suddenlycracked."
The theme of Wings of Fire Dangerous Gift is to be understanding of others and their problems even over some of your own problems.
Irony: " 'Yes,' Snowfall said, 'but-you-but still, what if you ...' She trailed off. Somehow it never occurredto her that Crystal whould take the oath so seriously."..." I also ... I had somewhere i wanted to be,' Crystal said, looking down at the MudWing again. 'or rather, someone else I wanted to be with."' (158)
This foreshadowsthat the gift of vision must do something uniquely as it would not seem to work, but was still found within the secret treasury, although with out any note which may make people suspicious.
This is suspenseful because Cricket has no clue that the IceWings and Nightwings are mortal enemies and Snowfall more than others. Further Cricket is not exactly informed about Clearsight's history with Darkstaker who nearly wiped out the IceWings. One smaller thing that impacts the suspense is how Tsunami is seen to have a feeling about Snowfall's reaction and the scene almost slows down with Snowfall's thoughts before suddenly speeding up to her instantly revealing the army.
This is ironic because in the beginningof the book many of Snowfall's worry come from thinking her sister Crystal is out there hiding and planning to take the throne from her one way or another despite the promise they made to their mother. In reality Crystal left thinking that Snowfall would be the one not to hold up the promise and was not even thinking at all about the throne.
