  • In chapter 1 of the Great Gatsby Nick states, "Involuntarily I glanced seaward - and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been at the end of a dock" (Fitzgerald 26). This shows that Gatsby has hope for his future with him and Daisy and it shows that when he sees that green light it reminds him of what he has always wanted which is to be with Daisy. It shows how his ideal life would be to be with Daisy.
  • In chapter 5 of the Great Gatsby it states "Luckily the clock took this moment to tilt dangerously at the pressure of his head, whereupon he turned and caught it with trembling fingers, and set it back in place" (Fitzgerald 74). This quote shows that Gatsby wants to go back in time to when him and Daisy were dating. This shows idealism by showing that in Gatsby's eyes his perfect or ideal life would be him and Daisy together like it was back then.
  • A quote in chapter 7 states "He wanted nothing less of Daisy than that she should go to Tom and say: 'I never loved you'(Fitzgerald 108). This shows that Gatsby ideal situation would be for Daisy to she never loved Tom and admit that she never quit loving Gatsby.
