  • I don't want any man, I don't want any other man.
  • You should join the dancers as if--as if nothing had happened.
  • If you really don't hate me for this separation, go out and dance. One of the men will see you dance well; he will like your dancing, he will marry you.
  • The story is set in a mountain village in the Philippines where Awiyao has been remarried to his second wife, Madulimay. And it begins on the night of the wedding.
  • CLIMAX
  • Awiyao has left his wife, Lumnay, because she could not bear him a child. It is customary in their tribe for a husband to remarry in these situations. He has now married Madulimay in hopes to have a son and Lumnay is upset because she loves Awiyao and doesn't want him to leave.
  • FALLING ACTION

  • Outside, the villagers are dancing in celebration of the wedding. Awiyao leaves to try and comfort Lumnay. He offers her many items of the life that they built together. Lumnay refuses them and clings to Awiyao, wishing he would stay.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Awiyao leaves Lumnay and goes back to join the tribe, while Lumnay runs up to the mountains.
  • While Lumnay sits on the side of the mountain,She watches the wedding ceremony take place from afar upon the bonfire and the people dancing. And she reminisces about the day she and Awiyao met and how it has all changed now.
  • The reader is left not knowing what will become of Lumnay.
