- The Three Horseshoes
- Nora Seed overdoses on wine and pills after living what she thinks is an unfulfilling life. She writes a note to "whoever" and leaves a voicemail for her brother.
- Nora Seed meets Mrs. Elm in the Midnight Library as she learns about the Midnight Library. Intrigued, she begins to enter alternate lives that could have been.
- In the reality where she marries Dan, she quickly remembers his flaws. At the end of the night, she sees how drunk he is and learns that he had been unfaithful to her.
- In the life where she is an Olympian swimmer, she is disappointed to see that she continues to take antidepressants in this life.  She also sees self-inflicted scars on her arm. 
- Living a life where she pursues glaciology, Nora is put on duty for polar bear spotting. When one actually appears right in front of her, Nora's desire to live in her real life is finally acknowledged. 
- Back in her real life, Nora visits Mrs. Elm at the nursing home. As they play chess, Mrs. Elm expresses some of her regrets. Nora reassures her that she will be there for her as Mrs. Elm was for her.
