  • Rome is located in Italy, which most of the area is a peninsula and islands in Southern Europe. The Italian peninsula stretches into the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Etruscan Influence of Sports on the Romans
  • A princess gave birth to twins, Romulus and Remus. Next, the king thought that when the twins would grow up, they would take the king's place as king. Then, the king ordered 2 men to put them in a river to drown. After that, a mother wolf came along and saved them and Romulus and Remus grew up with the mother wolf and her cubs. When Romulus and Remus grew up a shepherd saw them and told the king and the king told them to get the twins. Finally, years later Romulus and Remus built a city on the Tiber Riber where the mother wolf saved them.
  • Greek Influence of Architecture on the Roman Civilization
  • The Romans had developed into the field of engineering since they were heavily influenced by the Etruscans. The Romans had borrowed two major structures from the Etruscans, which were the arch and the cuniculus. The cuniculus is used as an underground irrigation system. The arch are arches that are rested on 2 pillars with a keystone in the center to hold it together.
  • Greek Influence of Writing, Art, and Religion on the Romans
  • The Romans adopted 2 Etruscan sporting events. The first sporting event was slave fighting, where at the funeral of the master, 2 of the slaves would fight to the death with swords and shields, and when the winner was congratulated they got executed. The second sporting event was chariot races and the charioteers were strapped to their chariots and it could result in injury or death if a chariot overturned, they could get dragged underneath the chariot's wheels or be trampled by horses.
  • The Romans borrowed and adapted ideas from the Greeks too, Greek architecture was an important influence on the Romans. The Romans borrowed the idea of building marble temples as homes for their gods and used the design of the columns. The Romans used Greek designs in their own building in the public and then learned to use concrete to create even larger structures. The Romans also used built huge stadiums like the Colosseum with concrete, where the gladiators fought.
  • The Greek influence on Roman culture was indirect. The Romans adopted the Greek alphabet which was changed by the Etruscans. The Romans altered the alphabet and the Romans wrote in capital letters and carved inscriptions into walls and columns. The Romans acquired some Greek ideas from the Etruscans and the Greeks The Romans then adopted Greco-Roman art which wealthy Romans often collected Greek art and built monuments in the Greek style. Roman sculptors and painters used Greek art as models for their own work. The Romans adopted the idea of worshipping many gods and goddesses and just changed the names of the gods and goddesses. The Romans performed rituals and sacrifices for the gods. The Romans gave the Greek gods Roman name like Jupiter, Venus, and Mars.
