Storyboard Text

  • On the 12th July 1588 the Spanish set sail with 130 Spanish Galleons, in hope to capture England. This was because Queen Elizabeth had executed Mary, Queen of Scotts, the heir to the throne.
  • The English see the Armada arriving and light beacons to warn the Queen. Each village would have a beacon and they would all be lit to warn village after vlilage, until the queen was aware of the Armada. The Spanish have lost the element of surprise.
  • English ships chase the Spanish ships up the Channel. The Spanish form a crescent, so the English are unable to sink the ships. However, they come up with a plan to break spain's strong defence.
  • The Armada anchors near Calais. The English send burning fireships into the Armada. The Spanish panic and scatter. England has broken the Spanish crescent, so the English ships attack the Spanish, and force them home.
  • The Armada tries to sail back to Spain by sailing North around Scotland, but the remaining galleons encounter bad weather. Many Spanish ships are wrecked by storms along the west coast of Scotland and Ireland.
  • The Spanish fleet are badly damaged and short of supplies, Only 67 ships returned home to Spain, just over half made it back home, and most of them were severely damaged. The Spanish Armada was a failure
