Storyboard Text

  • As Micheal was swinging from the monkey-bars he fell, fracturing his tibia.
  •
  • AHH!
  • Oh No!
  • So, Micheal, you have a greenstick fracture. And this is a fracture that happens when your bone bends and cracks instead of completely breaking.
  • And because you're as young as you are, and the bone needs to just be realigned, I'm going to prescribe you a simple cast and splint treatment.
  • How long will this take?
  • Six weeks to three months, but because your body is young and faster at repairing, and the fracture isn't terrible, I give it no more than 8 weeks.
  • During this 8 week period, your bones are going through 3 main stages of repair, you've gone through one already which was hematoma which clotted your blood, to stop the bleeding inside your body.
  • Next, is the formation of the fibrocartilaginous callus, which is when your osteoblast and fibroblast enter the hematoma and begin forming the bone.
  • I love my cast! It's so cool!
  • Then, your bony callus formation which happens when the latter cartilage becomes ossified. Finally, your bone remodels itself with help of the osteoblasts and osteoclasts.
