Storyboard Text

  • At the start of the story The Necklace, there is a young couple who isn't particularly wealthy. Mr. Loisel receives an invitation to a lavish party with his wife one day. He informs his wife of this information. Her reply, however, was not what he had anticipated, she was not overjoyed to be invited to the party. She was irritated since they couldn't afford to purchase her a dress or jewelry for the celebration.
  • Look! here's something for you. We have been invited to the#160;The Minister of Education and Mme. Georges Rampouneau request the pleasure of M. and Mme. Loisel's company at the Ministry, on the evening of Monday January 18th.
  • Madame Loisel recalls an old friend, Madame Forestier, who might have some lovely jewels she could borrow. She visits her and politely requests to borrow her most valuable possessions. Madame Forestier was gracious enough to say yes, and Madame Loisel gazed at this stunning diamond necklace.
  • Yes of course! Choose any jewels my dear.
  • Madame Forestier, I have a party to attend to but I have no jewels to wear. May I pleas borrow some of your jewels?
  • Madame Loisel finally buys a lovely gown and wore the diamond necklace she adored. Many eyes were drawn to her as she walked through those doors, and many people began to compliment her.
  • You look absolutely stunning and beautiful my love.
  • Mr. Loisel tries to find a cab as Mr. and Mrs. Loisel depart the party because it is quite chilly and Madame Loisel may become ill. As she settles inside the cab, she notices that her lovely diamond necklace has vanished.
  • I have ... I have ... I no longer have Madame Forestier's necklace.
  • What's the matter?
  • They looked for it for days and were unable to find it. They went to a number of jewelers and inquired about the cost of replacing the necklace. It will cost roughly 40,000 francs to replace it, according to them. It would take them ten years to replace the diamond necklace because they were not financially stable.
  • The jeweler said it would cost 40,000 francs to replace Madame Forestier's diamond necklace.
  • That will take us years to replace that necklace.
  • Madame Forestier it's me Mathilde Loisel. On the night of the party I lost your beautiful diamond necklace. I'm so sorry. It took me almost 10 years to replace it.
  • After many years, Madame Loisel has matured into an elderly woman who is both strong and helpful. She ran across Madame Forestier and her child one day and revealed the truth about her diamond necklace and how they were able to replace it. Furthermore, Madame Forestier informs her that it was a forgery valued roughly 500 francs.
  • Oh, my poor Mathilde! Mine was an imitation! It was worth five hundred francs at most.
