  • Uhm give me a minute haha. In the late 1700’s, Lazzaro Spallanzani likewise tried to disapprove the Spontaneous generation theory by performing a controlled experiment with broth.
  • He constructed his own experiment by placing broth in each of two separate bottles, boiling the broth in both bottles, then sealing one bottle and leaving the other open.
  • Spallanzani concluded that while one hour of boiling would sterilize the soup, only a few minutes of boiling was not enough to kill any bacteria initially present, and the microorganisms in the flasks of spoiled soup had entered from the air.
  • Then, what happened?
  • Yeah. But wait, have you heard about the theory of Alexander I oparin?
  • So many theory that opposing Aristotle's experiment huh.
  • his name sounds familiar to me. Is he the one who believed that life developed from coacervates?
  • exactly! He's the one who explained that the energy of lightning and ultraviolet rays from the sun caused these gases to combine and form chemical compounds.
  • As they mixed with rain and hot seas, they formed complex organic molecules which were similar to what living things are made.
  • So was saying that life on Earth developed through gradual chemical changes of organic molecules?
  • Yes. in the "primordial soup" which likely existed on Earth four billion years ago.
