The Civil War started becauseofsome uncompromisingdifferences between the free and slave states. It was over the power of the national government to prohibit slavery in the territories that had not yet become states. This scene represents the first battle of Fort Sumpter. The Confederateswon this battle though and the union surrendered.
Emancipation Proclamation
Aberham Lincoln is speaking in front of many people. He is speaking absout the Gettysburg address. The Gettysburg address is a speech addressing Lincolns purpose for pushing on to win the civil war. It was known as the abolition of slavery and reunification of the union.
The Vicksburg Campaign
The battle of Antietam was one of the turning points in the civil war. It provided Aberham Lincoln the chance to announce the emancipation Proclamation. This battle was very bloody and messy but the union came out on top.
Battle of Appomattox Court House
Aberham Lincoln announced the emancipation proclamation on January 1. It was the third year of the civil war. The document states that all persons held as slaves within the rebellion states are free. This states the legal freedom of about 3.5 million slaves in the us. It did not free all of them though.
The Vicksburg Campaign was a series of battles and maneuvers in the Western Theater. These battles were very important in control of the Mississippi river. The unions won and the Civil war was now in there favor.
This is the last battle of general Grant and General Lee. The Confederates were forced to retreat to the courthouse while the unions sneaked up on the Confederates trying to link up with other Confederates. The union forces were too strong and the confederates had to surrender and three days later it was official that the army of Northern Virginia, the army that lee commanded, was disbanded.
