Odysseus landed near Ismarus at the City of Cicones, in which resided the enemies of Odysseus. Odysseus and his men stormed the city, robbing and killing their people until eventually the Ciconian Army drove them out to sea and out of the city.
Get out of our city!
After drifting the sea for a few days, Odysseus and his men landed upon the land of the Lotus Eaters. They showed them kindness and hospitality, however those of his men that ate the flowers, forgot about they home they had to return to. The other men had to pry them away from the flowers and tied them to the ship in order to bring them back.
ahhhh yes. Mmmmm
NOOOOOO this is my home
The land they reached following the Lotus eaters was the Cyclopes' land. They were boundless creatures with no law or order. They all lived in their own cave with their family if they have one. Odysseus and his men stayed on the island for several days eating wild goats and observing the Cyclops. It wasn't until their third day the third day that they reached out and met the Cyclops.
At dawn of the third day, Odysseus gave his men a speech before they went to determine the relationship the Cyclops want with them.
Old shipmates, friends, the rest of you stand by; with my own company, and find out what the mainland natives are-...
Odysseus went into the cave with his best fighters and entered baring gifts. He came upon the giant who had fallen asleep and and they found cheeses and sheep and lambs.
After the Cyclops milked his sheep and completed all his orderly chores, he sat down to eat his dinner and speak with Odysseus. He had little respect and much disregard form Odysseus and his men, however.
We Cyclopes care not one whistle for your thundering Zeus...
