  • The Indus Valley people are usually refered to as the harrapan people named after their firt city of Harrapa.
  • The Indus River was that main river the Indus people used the river to bathe, drink, irrigate their fields and even for religious ceremonies.
  • The Indus people also had many cities on the Ghaggar-Hakra river which has since then dried up.
  • The harrapans had neatly planned out citys with all of their main raods facing north and south or east and west with smaller curvy roads that led to houses.
  • We think that it was overcrowded in theese civilizations beacause most houses were built ontop of old ones.
  • The homes were made out of brick and almost every house had its own indoor bathroom and underground sewer systems that brought sewage and dirty water away from the house
  • Unlike most other civilizations the Harrapens valued their trading instead of trying to takeover other civilizations
  • They Harrapens traded with lots of other civilizations like Mesopotamia, Iran, Central Asia, and the Arabien Gulf.
  • The Harrapens also traded amongst themselves quite often. They did not have a form of currency so they relied on trading.
  • The great bath was located in Mohenjo-daro and was at its max depth 8 ft. with a wide staircase at each end and measured around 40 ft by 23 ft
  • Cleanliness and purity was belived to be very importat to the Harappens. Some belive that people went here for forgivness and to purify. If you were poor or not pure you would not be allowed in
  • The harrapens used stone seals for trading. Stone seals were used for marks of ownership or badges of status.
  • Theese seals were usually carved with animals and symbols. There was usually a set of symbols at the top, an animal in the middle and a few more symbols at the bottom. Over 3,500 stones have been found so far.
  • A further theory is that they moved to find better soil due to the lack of nutrience their soil had.
  • One of the biggest mysteries about the Harappen civilization is how it ended. the harrapen civilization mysteriosly dissapered around 1300 bc. One theory is that the constantly chagning indus river flooded the citys and farmland forcing them to move
  • Another theory is that a bloodthirsty civilization took over
  • a different theory is that they were forced to move due to lack of water
