- "I order you to begin the raid. Kill every maggot in sight. Visit every village. Spare the children they do not hold any magic".
- "I will make father proud. I am the future king, it is my duty to protect the kingdom".
- "What does the character think about"? In Children of Blood and Bone, Zelie is the main character of the novel. There was a raid, that killed maji and burned down their village. And left her family without a mother figure in her life. Throughout the entirety of the story, all Zeile can think about is her mom. She uses the memories of her mom to help her, condemn her, and guide her. Zeile mom was a maji who was killed in the raid by the king. She was a reaper, this is her pictured in Zeile memory.
- "Very good Zeile"!
- "I PAID LAST WEEK"!!
- "YOU MAGGOT, I can easily throw you in the stocks, PAY UP"!
- hh"How does the character look"? In Children of Blood and Bone the maji are considered people who have white hair and silver eyes that hold the power of magic. Zelie is a diviner which is a child of a maji who has not yet have their magic. She has white hair, dark skin, and silver eyes. She lived in a village that had an ocean where she was able to enjoy the view, she was a warrior, and wore clothes of such. Her hair was straight but wavy, and she was stern.
- "Who do the like/dislike"? King Saran is the king of Orisha, the land in which Zeile and her family live in. He fears maji and wants to kill all of them because they killed his family. He was the cause of the raid that killed Zeile's mother, and she despises him. He does not look like Zeile, and is intimidating. Here he is pictured in the kingdom ordering the raid. Later in the story the son of the king ends up being a maji and Zeile starts to fall for him, he is portrayed to the right.
- " I am so proud of who you have become Amari".
- What do they do well/poorly? Zeile is a warrior trained by Mama Agba. Mama Agba is a special person in her life who trains diviners so they can eventually become maji. They train with a staff, and Zeile is one of the best amongst her class. She is extremely good at it. Unfortunately on the other hand, when faced with hardships, she can lash out and isn't so good at controlling that.
- "What is something they can not do"? King Saran is trying to remove magic from the face of Orisha. Without magic, the maji aren't treated with respect in the eyes of the noble. Without it, they aren't seen as anything but objects. Zeile can not let magic die. If she did not perform the ceremony to connect her to the gods, magic in Orisha would be lost forever. She needed to travel to the temple with the orb to connect her to the gods.
- "What effect do they have on others"? At first, when Zeile ran into the princess she wanted to take her right back to the kingdom. But through seeing the princesses true intentions, Zeile decided not to. Throughout the story they go through multiple trials and tribulations. Amari(the princess), becomes stronger because of Zeile. And is able to fight and protect herself. She is deemed the lionaire in the story because of her success.
- "I'm stronger because of you Zeile, you had faith in me when no one else did, I thank you".
