- Before Mulan makes the decision to serve in her father's place she begs him not to go. Mulan fears that her father in his weakened state will get killed if he goes again, and continually begs him to remain at home, safe.

- Mulan decided to take her fathers place as a man in war she dressed like a man and ran away to the training camp

- Mulan meets her mentor in the training camp. Captain Lee Shang. Shang is the son of the imperial general and is in charge of the new recruit's training camp. In the beginning, Shang sees Mulan as inferior, even in comparison to the other recruits. However, after serious training, Mulan becomes strong and fit to be a warrior thanks to shangs training.
