  • A miller who lives close to a college steals corn and meal brought to his mill for grinding. The steward of the college is to ill to go to his mill and watch his miller grind his corn, the miller ends up robbing him. The students are furious because of his actions.
  • Falling Action
  • To college students find out about the robbery and volunteer to take corn to the mill. When the miller finds out that the students want to prevent him from stealing again he sets there horse free and they end up looking for it all night. While they search for there horse the miller takes half the flour from the sack and refills it with bran.
  • Resolution Denoument
  • The miller sets them up to spend the night at his house because it's dark. All of the family members agree to let the students spend the night. The house is small but they all sleep in the same room on separate beds.
  • They couldn't sleep because they knew that they have been tricked by the miller. To get revenge Alan slept with the daughter. John then moved the baby to the foot of his bed. After she left to relieve herself when she returned she couldn't feel the craddel at the foot of the bed so she went to the next bed and slept with John.
  • Alan went back into his bed, but with the miller and talked to him about how he slept with the daughter. When the miller went to tell the wife what had happened she thought he was one of the students and hit him hard on the head. John and Alan quickly fled the mill taking the flour, horse and cake with them.
