  • I wouldn't sketch them if every ducat in six thousand ducats was divided into six parts, each of which was a ducat.
  • Here is six ducats for thy three thousand ducats.
  • My actions are on my head! I demand the law, the punishment, and the forfeiture of my bail.
  • Mercy falls from heaven like soft rain on the ground beneath. It blesses both those who give and those who take.
  • But don't worry: I'm armed and ready. Please extend your hand, Bassanio.
  • The phrase 'a pound of flesh' is used explicitly. Thy lands and goods are confiscated by the laws of Venice for one drop of Christian blood.
  • O upright judge! Mark, Jew: O learned judge!
  • Shylock is adamant about obtaining his money back from Antonio. Bassanio offers double the sum he borrowed to Antonio, but Shylock declines.
  • Nay, take my life and all, pardon not that:
  • Antonio hath half of thine riches; the other half goes to the general state, which humbleness may drive to a fine.
  • Portia tries to calm Shylokc down by telling him to be gentle with Antonio. Shylock seeks justice by adhering to Venice's strict laws. Antonio is ready for Shylock to sever his flesh.
  • Im content!
  • He soon became a Christian; the other, that he does write a gift, Here in the court, of everything he dies possess'd, to his son Lorenzo and his daughter.
  • Portia says that if any drop of blood comes out of Antonio, Shylock would forfeit his property and face the penalties. Shylock then declares that he will take three times the amount owing to him without injuring Antonio. However, it is now too late for that.
  • Antonio, please please please this person, for you are in my opinion inextricably linked to him.
  • And I will be eternally grateful in love and service to you.
  • We gladly accept your gracious pains as well.
  • The Duke explains to Shylock the penalty he will face. He offers to lessen the penalty to a fine, but Shylock rejects because he believes that if they want his money, they should also take his life.
  • Antonio shows Shylock clemency by offering him the option of becoming a Christian and writing his will to his son-in-law Lorenzo and daughter. Shylock is pleased with the offer. Then Shylock walks out.
  • The duke advises Antonio that he should be grateful to this man (Portia) and reward her. Bassanio and Antonio express their gratitude to her and express how much her actions mean to them because she spared them from something they didn't want to go through.
