- I wouldn't sketch them if every ducat in six thousand ducats was divided into six parts, each of which was a ducat.

- Shylock is adamant about obtaining his money back from Antonio. Bassanio offers double the sum he borrowed to Antonio, but Shylock declines.

- The Duke explains to Shylock the penalty he will face. He offers to lessen the penalty to a fine, but Shylock rejects because he believes that if they want his money, they should also take his life.
- Antonio shows Shylock clemency by offering him the option of becoming a Christian and writing his will to his son-in-law Lorenzo and daughter. Shylock is pleased with the offer. Then Shylock walks out.
- The duke advises Antonio that he should be grateful to this man (Portia) and reward her. Bassanio and Antonio express their gratitude to her and express how much her actions mean to them because she spared them from something they didn't want to go through.
