- A direct democracy is a democracy where the people are in charge and they make the decisions as a whole. Unlike representative democracy, in direct democracy people vote on an issue directly instead of on representatives who then vote. Athens is a great example of how the people voted directly on issues.
- Dictatorship

- A republic is when a state is ruled by elected representatives. Those representatives will then make decisions based on what the people want. This is very similar to representative democracy, but the only difference is that a republic doesn't have to be a democracy, it can be more like a monarchy without heredity. An example of a republic would be India.
- Constitutional monarchy
- Communism is basically where there are no classes and everyone is equal. There is no central government, so many areas are owned by the public. In communism, everyone is equal and wealth is distributed equally to all people. One country that is communist is China.
- Theocracy
- A dictatorship is when one person or a group of people rule. A dictator has all the power and there are no constitutional limits. Dictators will use tactics to scare the public and stay in power. North Korea is an example of dictatorship.
- A constitutional monarchy is when one person rules like in a monarchy, but the constitution limits their power. Instead of the monarch having all power, there is a constitution in place. Asia, Japan, and Thailand are all examples of constitutional monarchies.
- Theocracy is a form of government that is mostly based on religion. In theocracy, many of the laws will be based on religion and in some cases you have to worship the religion which the country requires. You can see that Iran has a Theocracy type government.
