  • The buffalo were very important to the rest of the ecosystem and without them, the plains suffered.
  • The grasslands, home to many popular species all around the world including bison, prairie dogs, antelope, and many different types of grasses
  • Behind me are the bison, a popular and important part of the Great Plains.
  • Let's take a look at the American Great Plains specifically. The Great Plains produces large amounts of corn, wheat, cattle, coal, oil, natural gas, and metals.
  • People began hunting the buffalo and by 1902, fewer than 100 wild buffalo remained. The military knew that the native americans in the area depended on the Buffalo. They wanted the native americans to move into their reservations, so they mass-killed the buffalo to keep food from the native americans.
  • To solve this issue, we'll allow hunters to take a few buffalo, but the rest will be for the Native Americans as they are a big part of their culture and daily life.
  • We can also reintroduce and bring in more bison to allow their population to grow again. Both sides can hunt the buffalo more sustainably without one party having to leave the area completely and stop hunting. The animals, people, and ecosystem will all benefit.
