- Hansel and Gretel live with their Father and Stepmother in the forest. They are very poor and have hardly any food. One night, the Stepmother says, "Lets leave them in the forest so we don't need to worry about feeding them." The Father wasn't fond of this idea, but he did whatever his wife said.

- Hansel and Gretel heard this conversation, and Gretel began sobbing. "Don't worry, Gretel," said Hansel. "I'll make sure we get back home." The next day, Hansel, Gretel, their Stepmom and Father got bread for lunch, and walked deep into the forest. Hansel scattered his breadcrumbs on the floor so they could find their way back.
- When they arrived, they made a fire to keep warm. Then, their Stepmother said, "We're going to chop wood. Feel free to eat lunch and go to sleep if you get tired. We'll return soon." Stepmother and Father walked back the way they came. Gretel shared her bread with Hansel, as he didn't have his anymore, then they fell asleep. They woke up late in the night feeling very hungry, and as expected, their Father and Stepmother hadn't returned, so they set off to find food.
- After a long hour of walking, they arrived at a house made of sweets. "Gretel, it appears no one is here! Let's eat!" said Hansel excitedly. They began to eat. Suddenly, a witch came out, and dragged them inside, locking Hansel in a cage. "You'll make a great dinner!" muttered the witch.
- "Now step in the oven and tell me if it is hot enough!" ordered the witch. Gretel responded, "I don't know how." The witch wasn't pleased. "Seriously?! Even I can do that!" She screamed. She stepped in the oven herself without thinking twice, and began to scream. She couldn't get out. Gretel ran over to Hansel's cage, then opened it. They went into a corner and saw a chest full of pearls and diamonds. They crammed as much as they could in their pockets, and ran.
- "There's your breadcrumbs!" said Gretel. Hansel nodded. "Let's follow them back home!" suggested Hansel. After running for ages, their home came into view. They rode a duck across the pond, and made it home. and their Father was sitting on the porch. Hansel and Gretel sprinted up to him and gave him a huge hug. "Hansel! Gretel! Welcome home! I'm so sorry for this! Your Stepmother has died! I've been lonely!" cried their Father. Hansel and Gretel emptied their pockets to show him the gems. "We're rich!" they all said.
