- Odysseus is the son of Laertes and the king of Ithica. (Homer 1122)
- Unmatched Warrior
- Odysseus has wine gifted to him by Maron, who tended to Apollo's holy grove at Ismarus. He uses it to make Polyphemus drunk so that it's easier to kill him. He has the favor of some gods. (Homer 1114)
- Battles Supernatural Forces
- Odysseus is stuck wandering at sea because of Polythemus' curse. (Homer 1123)
- Odysseus and his men stab Polythemnus' eye, rendering him blind. (Homer 1118-1119)
- Odysseus happens upon the land of the lotus-eaters. He sends two of his crew to scope out the land and meet the inhabitants, however, the crewmates eat the fruit of the lotus and lose their will to return home. Odysseus has to drag them back to the ship and tell everyone else not to eat the fruit of the lotus. (Homer 1112)
