You might not always be able to make the choices you know are best, and that’s okay! It’s about doing what you can to take control and ownership of your eating habits, rather than resigning yourself to always eating on the run, or stress-eating, or skipping meals.

  • Text on screen
  • Choose fruits and vegetables: Like palak, cabbage, bhindi, papaya, cheeku, apples etc. at least for 50% of your meal; साबुत अनाज or whole grains like sabudana, bajara etc; and proteins like chane, dals, paneer and the like. Let there be as much variety as possible, so you don’t get bored of the food options. Sometimes simpler is better, instead of a packet of potato chips, try homemade veggie chips that are not deep fried, or a baked potato.

  • If you’re not hungry, don’t eat: It sounds obvious, but we often eat because others around us are eating, or simply because there’s food nearby. When you’re intentional about your food choices, you’ll enjoy it that much more and avoid unwanted calories.

  • Bring your lunch to work: If finding healthy food options at work is a challenge, or if you don’t have time for a lunch break, you can take control and be intentional about what you put in your body by packing your own healthy lunch the night before. Even starting with one day a week will make a difference.

These healthy habits will make it more fun to break your rules every now and then and enjoy that plate of pakoras on a rainy evening.
