  • Mom, I wish we were invisible so no one could jump us on the way to school.
  • I know, me and your father want this Civil War to be over too, I’m sorry Mahmoud.
  • Exposition-Mahmoud is living in Aleppo, Syria in 2015 during a Civil War. He is living with his father, mother, little brother, and younger sister.
  • Climax -After giving Hana to a woman passing by on another dinghy, Mahmoud, his mother, father, and little brother were rescued by the Greek Coast Guard. Then, Mahmoud’s whole family was sent to a refugee camp in Hungary. Before this, Mahmoud and his family were harassed by the Hungarian soldiers(at the Hungarian border), even with tear gas. Mahmoud’s family knew that they would eventually find Hana, so they had to continue their journey to safety somehow. Mahmoud had just the right idea.
  • Falling Action-Mahmoud’s parents ended up joining him and Waleed on their journey out of the refugee camp. In fact, hundreds of the other refugees in the camp decided to come too, and they all walked to Austria. Mahmoud and his family were greeted with lots of food from the Austrians at the Austria borderline, then Mahmoud and his family traveled by train to Germany.
  • Rising Action-Mahmoud’s apartment got bombed and his family decided they were going to flee to Germany to avoid more harm.

  • I can’t believe this.
  • Our apartment is destroyed.
  • Rising Action-Mahmoud and his family, along with 30 others gathered on a small rubber dinghy after traveling to Izmir, Turkey. Everyone on the dinghy was attempting to seek asylum, until their boat hit a rock and they were all seeking life.
  • Resolution-Mahmoud and his family were kindly greeted into Austria, even though they still had not found Hana. Mahmoud’s family was told they were able to stay with a lady named Ruthie, who was once a Refugee herself. Since Ruthie was a refugee, she understood the troubles they had faced.
  • Resolution-Mahmoud and his family were kindly greeted into Germany as well, where they were told they would be living with a lady named Ruthie. Ruthie was a refugee herself, so she knew how it felt to not be able to find Hana.
  • This is worse than being in Syria!!!
  • Mahmoud, what are you doing?
  • I’m getting out of this place. We need to get to safety somehow, and this refugee camp isn’t a path to safety.
  • I know this has been hard, but we are almost to Germany!!
