  • Hello! My name is Ellaine Marie P. Laririt. For today, we will found out the evolution of Philippine Literature from Pre-Colonial to Spanish Colonization with the help of BSA students and their teacher, Ms. Dizon. It started with the conversation of the two students, Renjun and Ryujin.
  • I thought so too. Spanish colonization is really helpful in the development of our literature, despite of that, the Spaniards were depriving the native context of the Filipinos that time.
  • For me, I think it is helpful but in a wrong way.
  • Good morning class. Hearing the conversation by the Ryujin and Renjun, seems like you will be enjoying our topic for today.

  • There are two literary forms: oral and written. However it is hard to trace our written literature.
  • One fine day, at the classroom of BSA students, Ryujin and Renjun were discussing about their topic earlier on their subject History regarding the Spanish Colonization. Ryujin asked Renjun if the colonization of Spaniards was helpful in terms of the development of our Literature. Renjun, said that it is helpful but in a wrong way, Ryujin agreed and said that Spaniards is helpful in the development of the Philippine's Literature, however they were still depriving the native context of the Filipinos during that time. 
  • Because of their interesting topic, they didn't noticed that it is already time for their next subject. Their teacher in Philippine Literature, Ms. Dizon, walk in hearing their conversation. She was glad on what she have heard to her students. Seems like her students will like what she will be discussing for today. Since she wanted to discussed already her topic, she cut off Ryujin and Renjun by saying that what they are talking will be their discussion for today.
  • But Ma'am!!! We want to know already what's next. Pleaseeeee!

  • Ms. Dizon talks about the "indigenous Philippine literature". She explains the two literary forms during the pre-colonial period. She discusses how native people teaches children thinking that there was no pen and paper that time. Using bugtong or riddle, to inculcate the ability of logical thinking. Salawikain, on the other hand, gives good values, that are still present until now. One of the students, Yeji, raises her hand and asked about the other oral literature that time.
  • Ms. Dizon, answered Yeji. "Oral literature on the Pre-colonial period is really amazing. Did you know that the chant ambahan, even during joking, drinking, and many other random chores? Back then, riddle was also one of the games they played whenever they have a past time, and this will keep them enthusiastic." Imagining what Ms. Dizon said, the students, all, look in awe on how amazing Philippine literature is.
  • The students all looked amazed on how beautiful our literature back in the Pre-colonial period. They are about to asked what happened when the Spaniards colonized the Philippines, when the bell rang. Ms. Dizon bid her goodbye, and the students look, all showed disappointment. Ms. Dizon is happy seeing her students being attentive and curious on how Philippine literature evolved throughout the years, however she don't have enough time to discussed it.
