- The narrator of the history saw his old friend from university Cornelius Wyatt on the room next to him, so he talk to them but they just ignore it
- The narrator were angry now for the bad attitude that Cornelius had, so he was rude to him and told that he guessed what is inside his secret box, but it won't tell to anyone. Cornelius Wyatt's face became very pale and scared.
- There was a storm days after the ship left Charleston. The captain could not steer the ship and it went toward the shore and hit some rocks and it started to sink. The captain shouted to everyone to leave the ship and go to the small boats.
- LEAVE THE SHIP, QUICKLY
- People went to the small boats except for Cornelius who wanted to take his oblong box to the boats, but he couldn't move the box on his own.
- The box and Cornelius fell into the sea. Both the man and the box went straight down into the water. Cornelius and the oblong box did not come up again.The wind blew the boats to the shore and they were all safe.
- The narrator and the captain meet one month later and the captain told him that in the box was the body of Mr Wyatt's dead wife and that it was a bad idea to take it on the ship.
