- As pictured here, the long-necked giraffe is able to reach the leaves of the tree and eat. The short-necked giraffe is unable to reach, therefore, it is not able to eat and grow.
- Mhm... these leaves are so tasty.
- Ahh! I can't reach!
- Overtime, the long-neck giraffes will survive long enough to reproduce. Their offspring will have long necks and the short-neck giraffes will die off from lack of nutrition.

- As the short-neck giraffes are no longer a variation of giraffes, the long-neck giraffes become the only species of giraffes in their population.
- The short=neck giraffes may thrive in an area where there is a lot of grass and water that is more accessible and useful with their neck length.
- In this environment, there will be more short-necked giraffes because they can survive with the tree leaves being lower to the ground. As you can see, there are no long-necked giraffes here because they can thrive in other areas.
- As you can see, there are a lot of factors to natural selection. Some species thrive in different areas where others cannot. Natural selection chooses what species will be able to grow and reproduce in an area, while killing off species in an area because they can't survive.
