  • Climax
  • Bring him back!
  • The white family, while in their home in Victorian England, are visited by a certain soldier. After a little questioning, the family learns about a "Monkey's Paw", which is rumored to be able to grant a person 3 wishes, however, the soldier warns them that it's more of a curse and that the family should be careful what they wish for.
  • Falling Action
  • As the family ignores the soldier's warnings, they wish for 200 pounds, but nothing happens, so, they all head to bed. In the morning, the family enjoys their breakfast as Herbert goes off to work. As the sun sets and Mr and Mrs. White sit down for dinner, they notice their son, Herbert, hasn't come home from work yet. So when a man from Herbert's work place comes to the door with the news that Herbert has died in a machinery accident, the remaining family is hysterical as the man gives them the wished 200 pounds as compensation, and they realize the price has been paid.
  • Resolution
  • As Mrs. and Mr. White try to get some sleep, Mrs. White, still mad with grief over her son's death, tells Mr. White to use their second wish to bring Herbert back. Reluctant to do so, Mr. White eventually does so with some pressuring from his wife. For a while, nothing happens, as the two lay down in bed, believing the wish to have failed. Then, there's knocking on the front door.
  • You're mad, woman!
  • As Mrs. White races down stairs to greet what she believes to be her son at the door, Mr, White frantically reaches for the Monkey's Paw as he makes his third and final wish, we do not know what he wishes for, but, it makes the knocking cease. All the while Mrs. White was calling for her husband down stairs, because she could not unlock the door herself, as it was too tall for her.
  • I wish for...
  • As our story comes to a close, we see Mr. White go down stairs to comfort his wife, as we see no one at the door or in the proximity of the house.
  • I'm sorry, dear...
