  • Around 12 thousand years ago...
  • Somewhere in Mexico, 66 million years ago...
  • Natural selection's basically when an animal survives pretty well in their environment and makes babies that are even better while animals that doesn't do well dies..
  • Yo. Today I'll be talking about some old scientist named Charles Darwin's theory called natural selection.
  • Nice day, isn't it?
  • So yall remember the dinosaurs?
  • I'm gonna get you!
  • Ah crap!
  • However, like I said, mammoths were from the ice age. As you can see, the ice age eventually ended and soon tundra, jungles and savannahs were where mammoths live.
  • Hey guys move away, I'm coming through!
  • I'm not talking about them right now!
  • Hah, gotcha!
  • NOOO!
  • No, I'm talking about something that's much later: The mammoths and their close descendants, the elephants!
  • Melissa wait! Come back!
  • You see, mammoths were around thousands of years ago when an ice age was happening.
  • I'm sorry Dan. Goodbye.
  • Nearly everywhere was like the poles, cold and unforgiving. Mammoths grew thick fur and small ears to keep them warm, which let them thrive in the ice ages.
  • Come back!
  • Mel...
  • 2 thousand years later...
  • Mammoths began to die off and only the elephants that we see now, growing little hairs and big ears to keep themselves cool, survive. Quite an extreme case of natural selection!
  • Note: Elephants have already existed around 6 million years ago in small numbers.
  • Ah, I'm tired...
