- Oh wow a shooting star! Did you know that shooting stars are actually meteors that are burning up in the atmosphere
- My friend T'Sean said that Earth was gonna get hit by a meteorite one day. Is that true??
- While it is possible for Earth to be hit by space debris, a METEORITE is a METEOR that made it through the atmosphere(burned up) and hit the ground. A METEOROID would be much bigger and is outside of Earth's atmosphere.
- Let's ask SuperComputer! Hey computer, do you know if earth will be hit by a meteorite anytime soon?
- Put on your special suits and take a little space walk so that you can learn a little more about the different names we have for things in space and the difference between them.
- Oh wow those are a lot of different names!! What others are there.?
- So where to, Roderick? A JOVIAN PLANET? A TERRESTRIAL one?
- The Jovian Planets are our outer planets. They're the larger and the gaseous planets like Jupiter and Saturn. TERRESTRIALS are the exact opposite.
- Cool! Let's go there! So to Saturn. That's the one with the rings right
- What are those?
- Saturn being a Jovian planet, means that it has a much longer ORBIT
- No technically the orbit is how long a year is on the planet. It's how long it takes for the planet to go around the sun
- Is that how long the day is on a planet?
- We gotta stay away from the Roche Limit of Saturn. It's the line where if you're within it you'll be destroyed and pulled in the planet's grav. pull.
- A Roche limit seems pretty dangerous!!
- That, Roderick is a COMET. A dirty snowball people call it. It's a big ball of ice and other stuff
