Storyboard Text

  • The British will win this battle! We already control the West Indies and parts of Canada.
  • In the mid 1700s, Britain and France became involved in the Seven Years' War. They were both hoping to take over colonial trade and assert dominance in the West Indies and Canada.
  • The fur trade is important to us for we must maximize our profits. New France is ours for the taking. We will prove victorious!
  • The British were furious when they found out the French built forts that restricted the westward growth of the colonies to the Ohio River Valley. However, despite young Washington 's attempt at attacking Fort Duquesne with his small militia, he could not defeat the French and their Native allies and was forced to surrender, thus sparking the start of the war.

  • After defeat at Fort Duquesne, the British assembled representatives from seven colonies at Albany, NY to coordinate better colonial defense and adopted the Albany Plan of Union. Although it was never adopted, it set a precedent for future colonial congresses in the Revolution.
  • The plan will provide an intercolonial government and will initiate the recruitment of troops and tax collection from the colonies.
