  • Willy and Ben talk about Willy taking his own life so that Biff can start a business. Willy also imagines his own burial and how he will demonstrate to Biff how beloved he was by all of the mourners who attend.
  • Willy truly commits suicide. This scene is significant because it highlights Willy's inner thoughts. Willy has been trying to commit suicide for some time, but as a popular salesman, he has put it off until he has everything his family needs. Additionally, he believed that dying himself would make Biff think less of him, yet as Ben already mentioned, Biff views him as a coward.
  • Because of Willy's suicide, the house is paid for but he won't be there to enjoy it. Linda is left on her own as the boys leave. The family is no longer in debt, but Willy will not be there. Willy believed his suicide was a favour to his family, yet he left Linda with nothing.
