  • Glad you asked, there isn't many people here that go around asking about rocks. This rock is called Gneiss. And it is the most common rock in the park. It is classified as a metamorphic rock which means it was heated and put through high pressure underground, or metamorphism, in order to have that layered pattern. This is really interesting because most of the rocks here date back to 50 million years ago! In the Cenozoic Era!

  • It doesn't matter. I live up in the mountains. I remember when this place was just a flat plain. Until 140,000 years ago, The Snake River came by and eroded away my home to what it is now. Bit-by-bit I would see a piece of land being washed away and taken downstream, far, far away from here.
