- At this story's beginning in early 6th century Denmark, the monster Grendel has been murdering king Hrothgar's men for about 12 winters because of their singing. So Hrothgar decides to call upon a mighty warrior named Beowulf.
- Climax
- When Beowulf arrived he was boasting about all his achievements, but the Unferth doubted him. So he decided he would fight Grendel alone and bear armed because Grendel was.
- Falling Action/ Resolution
- The night Beowulf is going to fight Grendel, he decides to disguise himself as one of the sleeping men in the hall. When Grendel shows up, he starts to murder the sleeping men. But when he attacks Beowulf he gets blocked, and Beowulf and Grendel engage in an intense battle.
- Summary/ Theme
- Beowulf rips off Grendel's arm.
- Grendel flees into the darkness, fearing that he could be killed. After, Beowulf hangs up Gendel's arm like a chandelier, and the men celebrate. In the end, Beowulf wins the fight, but Grendel escapes with his life.
- Hrothgar and his men would always celebrate in the mead hall, but the monster living in the nearby swamp Grendel hated how noisy they were. So in the middle of the night, he would sneak into the hall and kill the sleeping men one by one. Because of this Hrothgar called the mightiest warrior Beowulf to come and fight Grendel. When Beowulf arrived he boasted about his achievements, but Unfeth doubted him and said he was lying. So Beowulf said he would fight Gendel alone and with no weapons or armor. In the dead of night, Beowulfdisguisedhimself as one of the sleeping men. Grendel starts his attack, but when he gets to Beowulf he gets unexpectedly attached. So they have an epic fight, but Beowulf rips Grendel's arm off and Grendel flees into the darkness. So all the men celebrate the victory. In the end, Grendel escapes with his life.
