  • Slaves were 90% of the population. Slave labors were the ones that caused the revolution because of what they did. There was a very racist society in the country during the time because all of the white people were in power.

  • Toussaint L'Ouverture and Jean-Jacques Dessalines were great leaders and influential leaders during the Haitian Revolution.

  • Blacks revolt to to improve equality for them. Since the blacks had most of the population and the whites were being too powerful. The blacks revolted and won against the whites in the battle.
  • Outcomes/Effects
  • Finally we have defeated Napoleon and his nonsense.
  • This document gave way more freedom to the Blacks and helped a lot of people out. Now everybody had fair rights and were all equal.
  • Between 1794 and 1802, L'Overture successfully steered the colony toward independence. Although slavery was abolished, this didn't end the plantation system because L'Overture and his compatriot Andre Rigaud believed that sugar was a vital importance to the economy.
  • It ended Napoleon's attempts to create a French empire in the Western Hemisphere and arguably caused France to decide to sell its North American holdings to the United States (the Louisiana Purchase)—thus enabling the expansion of slavery into that territory.
