  • We are free from Great Britain, and now able to create a more satisfied way of Government for our people!
  • Articles of ConfederationNovember 15, 1777
  • We now have a clearly stated government that has individual powers.

  • As delegates, we all need to come up with the best plan to make our country successful.
  • The United States had created and established the Declaration of Independence which had declared them free from the ruling of Great Britain in 1776.
  • Virginia PlanMay 29, 1787
  • The Plan would not benefit states like Connecticut and Rhode Island.
  • Shortly after declaring independence, in 1777 the US created the Articles of Confederation, another written document, only this one had explained the significance and rolls for the state and federal government.
  • Three-Fifths CompromiseJune 11, 1787
  • There needs to be more representation for the colored people.
  • The Constitutional Convention was held with many delegates in attendance in order to revise the Articles of Confederation, but also to create a constitution for the United States.
  • New Jersey PlanJune 15, 1787
  • The Virginia Plan had stated the idea of having the three branches, along with having the House of Representatives and the Senate. This was called the Big State Plan. This plan was rejected at the meetings of the Constitutional Convention because it did not favor the smaller states.
  • The Virginia Plan would favor our state Pennsylvania!
  • This plan cannot go into action without the favor of all states!
  • The Three-Fifths Compromise was the compromise made between delegates, originally introduced by James Wilson and Roger Sherman, to allow for three out of five enslaved people to be counted for in the US voting.
  • We can count three out of five of the colored people in votes.
  • The New Jersey Plan was created in response to the Virginia Plan, giving an appropriate number of representatives for the population that each state obtains. This had not favored larger states, so this plan had been rejected in the Constitutional Convention.
  • This plan now favors the smaller states! This cannot happen!
  • A new plan needs to be made to benefit all states!
  • This plan will be rejected!
