  • Sister, we have started learning about acids bases. What are they?
  • Acids bases are a very fun topic. let me brief you!
  • A basic definition is that an acid and a base are opposites. Acid tastes sour, bases taste bitter. Did you know acids and bases are all around us?
  • the lemon I think is acidic, right?
  • Look at these common foods found in our house which do you think is basic which is acid?
  • Right! And the coconut is fresh, so it is alkaline. If it was dried, it would be acidic
  • How do we tell if its an acid or a base. I mean, you can't TASTE all of them, can you?
  • You are quite right, we can't! So we use indicators. Indicators come in either liquid or paper form, change color when in contact with an acid or a base. The most common indicators are the Universal Indicator litmus paper.
  • 1.Wow! 3.But why do we need this?
  • 2. The Universal Indicator has a scale of 1-14. The more acidic, the lesser the number vice versa. This scale is the pH scale. 4. The pH is important for daily things like food, water treatment, gardening, etc.
  • Yes! I will tell all my friends at school tomorrow. Thanks!
