- Ice skating originated in Canada. There they skated on the mud when it was wet or frozen. This started in 3000 BC.
- People started to skate on ice instead of mud to adapt to the environment. This was easier than trying to skate on the ground. This level is sometimes known as figure skating. This started in 1772.
- Now ice skating has traveled around the world and even turned into a sport called Hockey. It has spread to Louisiana and now Louisiana has its own Hockey team. This is a competitive version of ice skating. This started December 19, 1917.
