  • John and his family stayed, and things were looking up but other settlers left because the hardship was too much. The effects of settlement clashed with the natives closing the open range and increased cattle and crops introducing the cowboys

  • The conditions of their new home were brutal, lack of materials for a home, lack of rain, fuel, extreme temperatures and completely isolated
