- Siddhartha Gautama was born a prince in 553 BCE. He lived the life of luxury and never knew suffering after his father, the king, heard of a prophecy that Siddhartha would become a teacher or a ruler.
- When riding beyong the palace gardens, Siddhartha saw for the first time a sick person, an old person and a dead body. And he was disturbed by the suffering.
- Siddhartha left home and his family to go discover ¨the realm of life where there is no suffering nor death¨.
- For six years, Siddhartha wandered and spoke with holy men to try and understand the mysteries of life.
- In his wandering, Siddhartha decided to sit and meditate under the Bodhi Tree until he found answers to life's mysteries. For 48 days he was tempted by evil spirits to give up his meditation.
- Finally, after long meditation, Siddhartha reached nirvana, or enlightenment, and understood that the end to life's suffering was to follow the ¨Four Noble Truths¨ and the ¨Eightfold Path¨. He became Buddha and taught Buddhism to the world.
