Storyboard Text

  • When Prince Siddhartha Gautama was first born, a fortune teller had prophesized that he would be either a great king or a great saint.
  • Upon hearing this, the king was upset, as he did not want his son to be a saint, but instead an heir to the throne
  • As Prince Siddhartha grew up, the king kept him in the kingdom and did not allow him to leave. The prince has a happy childhood and the king ensured that his son would not see suffering, scared of him becoming a saint. In the kingdom, all the sick people and dying people were hidden from the prince.

  • At the age of 16, Prince Siddhartha married a princess named Yashodhara. The king built a huge palace for the couple and gave them wealth. He made sure their lives were perfect so that they wouldn't leave to see the outside world. This plan worked until the prince turned 29.

  • At age 29, the prince's curiosity if the outside world grew much further. He began going outside unannounced, giving the king no heads-up. While visiting the outside, he came across elderly people, sick people and learnt about death. This traumatized the prince and he got very upset. How could there be so much suffering in the world?
  • The prince decided to leave his wife, son and wealth behind to try to find enlightenment. He wanted to find a way to end suffering and bring happiness to the people.

  • After leaving everything behind, the prince went to the forest to meditate to try and find enlightenment. Prince Siddhartha eventually became the Buddha and reached Nirvana.
