- Rome at the time was just a peninsula
- Carthage also ruled over the islands of Sardinia, Corsica , and Sicily which is why the war started
- The first of the Punic wars was at sea even though Carthage had a superior navy Rome still won with improvements to their ships
- The second Punic war was the most famous for the General Hannibal Barca led his troops with elephants almost winning but he made one fatal flaw so Rome won again
- The third Punic war was when Rome attacked the city of Carthage burning it to the ground they fought because they thought that the Carthaginians were amassing an army.
- Rome gained many new territories ,farmers neglected their fields, and Carthage was wiped off the map
