  • Middle of 17th century many people in Haiti had invested in sugar plantations. It was home to more slaves than any place other than Brazil. 90% of the population was slaves. But because the brutal living conditions and working conditions prevented natural population growth. So when the declarations of rights of man and citizen came out it had given hope to so many slaves and people of color. By august of 1791 a massive slave revolt broke out. When french and the national assembly gave full citizenship to all free men of color the petite blancs were not happy and that why the revolt started

  • Some goals were that the slaves and people of color would get to be a considered a French citizens and the petite blancs wanted to not have slaves and people of color be citizens. The French and national assembly were wanting liberty fraternity and equality. Leaders during this time were L'Ouverture French and national assembly and Napoleon Bonaparte and Jacques Dessailines.
